Director Investment Strategy (Insurance/Retirement) - Summary

This is a newly created role on the Investments team designed to assist the Vice President, Investments in managing the investment portfolios of both traditional Life and Retirement business segments. Fixed Income experience is required. This is a position that will require the person to be hands on in terms of doing the work and not just review. This is a Director level role.


In this role you will be responsible for: 

  • Investment strategy research: leading strategic projects, analyze, recommend and implement smart investment strategies offering attractive risk/reward opportunities.
  • Support new Pension De-Risking transactions: recommend asset allocation, assist with assets-in-kind valuations and transfers, research and implement hedging strategies.
  • Asset liability management: Help to build the firm’s ALM process, including asset modeling, cash flow, and recommend solutions for improving the ALM profile.
  • Work with internal and external asset managers to create new investment mandates, develop and update guidelines, and formulating strategies.
  • Report on and manage investment risks: monitor and analyze portfolio risks; create regular and ad-hoc investment risk reports; develop strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Leading or participating in various projects as needed.
  • This person will work closely with various teams across multiple offices
  • Coaching and mentoring of junior staff, may have an Analyst reporting to this position.

Experience/Knowledge

  • 7+ years experience in investment management, investment risk management and/ or asset liability management; 10 or more years of experience preferred
  • Strong fixed income knowledge
  • Insurance industry experience is strongly preferred
  • Asset Modeling experience is also preferred

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a related field, (finance, economics and business). A master’s degree/ MBA is preferred
  • CFA or working towards CFA is strongly preferred

This is a (high visibility) full time position with generous base salary and bonus and full benefits including both a matching 401k and a defined benefit pension plan. Full relocation is offered if need and this position must sit on site (no remote). Location is CT.  ???????
