SUMMARY

Our Client is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Senior Territory Manager in their commercial lines division.  This position will be responsible for assisting the company’s expansion into Texas.  Job responsibilities will include assisting our product team with market research and product development, identifying and recruiting qualified agents to represent us, and ultimately managing the ongoing performance of their assigned territory.  The position will be assigned underwriting authority and will be expected to assist with new business production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop relationships with agency customers through regular in-person visits, phone and digital communication.  A significant amount of time will be spent traveling to visit agents and participate in industry and company functions.
  • Gain expert knowledge on the Company’s products, underwriting appetite and services and be able to effectively communicate these to agents.  This includes providing training of company systems and processes.
  • Work with CL Management and CL Underwriting to develop agent and territory goals.  Communicate goals to assigned agents and gain their commitment to meet goals.  Monitor progress and provide periodic feedback to agents.  Work with agents to develop strategies and business opportunities to assist their progress to meet goals.
  • The position will be assigned an Underwriting Letter of Authority equivalent to at least an Underwriter 2, or as determined by CL Management. The position will use the authority to write risks while in the field, assist CL Underwriters with gathering underwriting information on larger risks, and periodically conduct field underwriting of individual risks as requested.
  • Follow up on larger outstanding accounts and work with underwriting to successful closure (binding of the risk).
  • Responsible for managing agent representation for assigned territory including recommending rehabilitation plans for underperforming agents, agent terminations, and identifying new agents for areas where additional representation is required.
  • Analyze market trends and competitor data within the respective territories and communicate these to CL Management and CL Underwriting.
  • Review exceptional risks and work with Territorial Underwriter and CL Management to gain approval for agency exception and accommodation.
  • Have familiarity with the geography & demographics of the assigned territory relative to the industry.  Ability to use the information to identify business opportunities or challenges.
  • Attendance and involvement in marketing meetings (as required).
  • Ability to analyze multivariate performance information (loss ratio, etc) to make recommendations for tactical and strategic decisions. Develop informational reports, as well as ability to present similar materials to a wide range of groups including the executive level. 
  • Assist CL with business initiatives beyond their assigned territory as requested.  This will include identifying agent representation and gathering market information on product offerings and other competitive information. 



SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES ARE EXPECTED TO:

  • Highly motivated and self-driven and ability to work successfully without daily supervision.
  • Prior experience in a similar position with current knowledge and established relationships with independent agency owners and trade association organizations in the southeast Texas region.
  • Familiarity of Texas geography & demographics relative to the industry.  Ability to use the information to identify business opportunities or challenges


EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, three to five years related experience and/or training for BOTH Marketing/Sales and Underwriting; or five to seven years in Marketing/Sales OR Underwriting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
